Originally released in 2009, hhv.de is finally re-releasing the collaboration »A Day Late… & A Dollar Short.« between Blu and Sene on vinyl – which is a great reason to have another listen. The talented rapper Blu hasn’t even picked up the mic for this album, but instead has payed his full attention to producing it. What has come out is a dreamy and playful musical foundation, filled by various vocal-samples. The individual snippets from different tracks or films have been looped and then turned into the basis for a track, or they just appear as a hook in between, or they function as interludes. Content-wise, it’s philosophizing about marriage, monogamy and the difficulty of committing oneself to one woman only. While the beats might distract the listener from Sene’s raps, it’s still worth listening to them – the rapper from New York seems to think quite a lot about life in general and about his own one, in particular, and thereby puts the listener into all kinds of different moods. And still, the basic tenor is rather sad, somewhat weary, despite the instrumentals sounding jolly and catchy. What manifests this impression are the vocal hooks, sung by Sene or the singer Brea, which instantly stick to your ear. All in all, it’s a diversified record and it’s about time for it to be released on vinyl, deserving all the attention it can get.
