Loops Haunt – 10 Favourites

01.04.2014

1 – »Funeral Music for Queen Mary« by Henry Purcell
taken from the LP »Clockwork Orange«, Columbia 1972
Loops Haunt: Such a powerful piece of music, the fact that it’s specifically a funeral song, and its 300 years old all pay out here. The Walter Carlos cover means a lot to me as I was blown away first time I heard it as a young lad. The films style and the soundtrack hit me like a ton of bricks.

2 – »Dire and Ever Circling Wolves« by Earth
taken from the LP »Hex; or Printing in the Infernal Method«, Southern Lord 1995
Loops Haut*: Again a track that just grabbed me first time I heard it. It’s a staple of my downtime playlists. Has a dirgy type burnt out type vibe. Morning whisky.

3 – »This Bitter Earth« by Venetian Snares
taken from the 7″ »Moonglow/This Bitter Earth«, Addict 2004
Loops Haunt: I always wanted to use that danny elfman sample and when I heard it on this I just started laughing because it was perfect. Get your hands on the 7″ if you can.

4 – »Symphonies Of The Planets« by NASA
taken from the CD »Symphonies Of The Planets«, LaserLight Digital 1992
Loops Haunt: It’s the closest thing I think we have so far to »listening« to space, processed electromagnetic readings from planets recorded by voyager probes. Yup.

5 – »Diesel Raven« by Chris Clark
taken from the LP »Clarence Park«, Warp 2001
Find it at hhv.de: LP Loops Haunt: Some of Clarks melodies have a beautiful ambivalence to them. I also love the lo fi hardness.

6 – »Paradise Architects« by Theo Parrish
taken from the LP »First Floor«, Peacefrog 1993
Find it at hhv.de: LP Loops Haunt: Classic from Theo Parrish, go deep.

7 – »Blutmund« by Asmus Tietchens
taken from the LP »Biotop«, Sky Records 1981
Find it at hhv.de: LP Loops Haunt: The lead synth in this record just has a sound that instantly appeals to me, the whole track is soo simple but there’s a something about it I can’t put my finger on that makes me grin. That tracks got it for me, whatever it is.

8 – »Sunken Ship« by Sam Spence
taken from the LP »Sounds«, Music de Wolfe 1972
Find it at hhv.de: LP Loops Haunt: It’s mad, Pretty much could have come out in 2000+ and been right at home. But its from 1972.

9 – »Night Passage« by Alan Lamb
taken from the CD »Night Passage«, Dorobo 1998
Loops Haunt: Alan Lamb grew up and became aware of »wire music« in the closest house to where I stay at the moment. I met the farmer who remembered the family and he showed me where the wires would have been, an amazing coincidence considering I love his music and the catalyst is right there. The whole CD is stunning. Apparently it made a group of people meditating spew when it was played accidentally. I can perfectly believe it.

10 – »Limb by Limb (Dj SS Remix)« by Cutty Ranks
taken from the LP »Rumble in the Jungle, Vol. 2«, Fashion 1994
Loops Haunt: Father Ted will always be one of my favourite shows.
