Imagine a typical, rainy, gloomy day in November. Outside it’s dark and cold, there is no motivation to be found to do anything productive at all. That’s exactly the right situation to put on »They Shall Inherit«. Immediately, you’ll find a trace of spring floating through the air and you’ll begin to relax. Whatever the weather is like outside one’s own walls, the music of Lance Ferguson’s (Lanu, The Bamboos) new project creates a quiet idyll, existing for no longer than just that very moment. All six tracks come up with that moment in their own way. Sometimes the passionate saxophone-solos get to you, sometimes it’s funky bass-lines, inviting you to have a little dance. The delicately woven carpets of sound allow the listener to let the mind wander, to dream away, without being kitchy or cheesy. At the same time, you can really focus on the atmospheric music and enjoy it just the same, while the groove sweeps you off your feet. No matter which method you choose for enjoying this record: it will help you to breathe deeply and relax. Still, it’s not about shutting down your brain or completely sinking into the idea of perfect peace, as »The Quietening« reminds us. Finally, the improvisations by vibrationist Roy Ayers »Leroy and the Lion« are yet another amazing addition to the album.
