Whoever brought together Fabiano Do Nascimento and the Vittor Santos Orquestra for Vila must surely have known what warmth would result. The album combines the Brazilian guitar tradition, orchestral grandeur and an intimate culture of remembrance. Do Nascimento’s seven- and ten-string guitars remain at the centre, yet Vittor Santos’s 16-piece orchestra meets them on equal terms: strings, wind instruments and guitars circle one another, responding, driving the music forward or drawing back. Precise, light, almost melancholic.
