Günther Fischer Quintett – Eselsfutter

If a story sounds too good to be true, in 2026 it most definitely is. However, Eselsfutter is the real deal. Günther Fischer was an outlier in the GDR’s music scene, a Manfred Krug collaborator who was allowed to release his music internationally. These red-hot jazz-funk tunes were recorded in 1974 and 1975 and presumably written for the Wie füttert man einen Esel road movie. Sax player Fischer even puts his main instrument aside to get behind a synthesizer. This outstanding fusion record is too good to not be true.
