A guitar that sings, jingles, clatters or scrapes – sometimes almost all at once: Hans Reichel, a veteran of Wuppertal’s free jazz scene, invented instruments, built guitars, experimented with different types of wood, extended the frets and played on all sides of the bridge. One often feels as though one is not hearing a guitar at all, but something one has not yet encountered. Dalbergia Retusa presents his solo guitar music, a rich treasure trove of quirky beauty with which Reichel carved out his own space between free improvisation and folk.
