London’s eight-piece combo Kokoroko is one of the reasons why the British jazz scene has been on everyone’s lips for years. After appearing on the compilation “We Out Here” curated by Gilles Peterson and releasing their acclaimed debut EP in 2019, they gave a long overdue musical sign of life this year in the form of the double A-side single »Baba Ayoola / Carry Me Home«. The collective around Sheila Maurice-Grey follows in the tradition of West African music legends like Fela Kuti or Ebo Taylor and wants to bring jazz out of the elite circles and back onto the streets – and into the popular playlists. Once again they have succeeded. Oh well, the debut album is also due in 2022!
