On Dream Temperature, Anenon places a stronger emphasis on electronic sound than on his earlier work. At the centre is a highly unusual instrument: a wind synthesiser whose tones are shaped directly by breath. The subtle layers that emerge from it run through the entire album – at times recalling a faint rattling, at others the sound of wind or storm-driven waves breaking in the open sea. They never push themselves to the foreground, yet they keep the music in constant motion. Almost like a ship gliding across the water, bound for the unknown.
From the very first track, one senses the solitude, the melancholy, the longing, but also a quiet, consoling beauty of the kind that arises when there is nothing around you but wind and water. On the title track »Dream Temperature«, the sonic world begins to shift: veiled, siren-like vocals appear, the sound becomes more electronic, and the digital processing comes through more strongly, especially in the wind parts. Later, the music grows stormier and more intense. Instrumentally, everything is finely wrought: saxophone, piano, electronic textures.
On »When The Light Appears, Boy«, Anenon’s field recordings from various countries are especially audible. Faint melodies emerge like individual stops on a journey. Like places one passes through without ever truly arriving. With »Toyama«, the sea begins to calm: the sound feels more composed, almost hopeful. The album finally reaches its harbour in the closing track »Postscript«, a solo piano piece that releases the listener from this passage between dream and reality into stillness and composure.
