American Primitivism

American Primitivism is an acoustic guitar movement that was shaped by John Fahey in the 1960s. It is characterised by open tunings, fingerpicking techniques and a free style of playing with influences from folk, blues, gospel and raga. Despite the virtuoso technique, the focus is not on perfection, but on a raw, spiritual expression. Other well-known representatives of this style include Robbie Basho and Leo Kottke.
