Broken Beat

Broken beat (also known as bruk) is a club genre that emerged in London in the late 1990s. It combines polyrhythmic, broken beats with influences from UK garage, drum ‘n’ bass, funk and jazz. It is characterised by complex drum patterns, soulful harmonies and an improvisational style that intertwines club function and musical aesthetics.
