Crunk

Crunk is a variant of hip hop that emerged in the American South in the early 1990s, characterised by rapping, singing and even shouting over the drum rhythms of a Roland TR-808, simple synth sounds and deep, accentuated bass lines. The genre reached its peak to date in 2004 with the song Yeah! by Usher, produced by the ‘king of crunk’, Lil Jon.
