Drone music is a minimalist style of music defined by the use of sustained tones, notes or tone clusters. Typical of this genre are long sequences of notes with relatively few harmonic variations in each piece. La Monte Young, one of the founders of the genre in the 1960s, defined it in 2000 as »the sustained tone branch of minimalism«.
