This is a nice surprise: On their third album, Altın Gün from Amsterdam, as already on their previous albums, virtuously draw from the rich fund of Anatolian traditions. Whereas they have so far paid tribute to psychedelic rock and pop from Turkey in the Seventies, they now clothe their delightfully wistful melodies predominantly in lilting synth-pop in the spirit of the Eighties. Spherical sounds alternate on »YOL« with driving disco pieces. As before, electrically amplified traditional instruments such as the saz play a prominent role, and with gripping songs like »Maçka Yollari« Altın Gün continue what could already be heard on their very listenable earlier albums. The mixture that the band develops in the process makes »YOL« such a novel as well as multi-faceted and seductive work of art. Exclusively a limited Purple Vinyl Edition of the record is available at HHV Records.
