For singer and guitarist Emily Sprague, those moments when our perception of reality becomes fragile are particularly interesting. She wrote an essay about this a year and a half ago called Songwriting In Thin Places – and the current album Jellywish by her Brooklyn, New York-based band Florist is based on it.

Shimmering folk music
The sound of Jellywish is as permeable as the fragile reality it is inspired by – despite the reduced nature of this folk music, there is always something shimmering and entrancing about it. Despite themes of mortality and mourning, the music unfolds a palpable life-affirming drive. Before it becomes too harmonious, ambient electronic textures intervene and disturb the idyll – as a deliberate break that creates depth. A successful balancing act that should be especially fascinating live: Florist are going on tour and will stop in four German cities between August 31 and September 15, 2025.
