In 1995, Labcabincalifornia, the second album by West Coast crew The Pharcyde, was released — and today it’s considered a landmark record. After their playful debut, the group presented a more introspective and musically focused sound. A major influence on this shift was J Dilla, who made hip-hop history with productions like »Drop« and »Runnin’«. To celebrate the album’s 30th anniversary, Fatlip, Slimkid3 and Imani are taking the classic on tour — with stops in Berlin (Metropol) on October 14, Hamburg (Fabrik) on October 15, and Cologne (Gloria) on October 16.
Golden Era rap with depth
Part of what made Labcabincalifornia a long-time favourite for many is its reflective tone. Songs about doubt, growth and life beyond the hype give the record emotional weight — without sacrificing flow. The three shows on the 30 Years of Labcabincalifornia Tour are a rare chance to experience this sound live, in its original form.
