One is tempted to spray it in big red letters on the backs of all those Mitte hipsters: »Punk’s not dead!« It’s that kind of feeling that Dylan Baldi and his boys create on Attack On Memory and they get actively supported by sound engineer and Nirvana producer Steve Albini. 8 songs, 30 minutes and the best of the best of late 80s and early 90s punk rock. A healthy, modern nihilistic punk attitude (»I thought I would be more than this«), dirty drums, garage riffs and the spirit of the (reborn) At The Drive-In and Refused watching over all of it. But it is this enormous mutability and the element of surprise behind every riff that is really impressing: A punk record, of all records, being the most diverse piece of music of the last months, that’s a big surprise. The fact that these indie pop guys around Dylan Baldi act like they’ve never done anything else but taking in punk music that happened long before their times, is a side note that makes this piece of art even more astonishing.
