It’s the first official release by dreamcastmoe, aka Davon Bryant-Mason, on Peckham’s Rhythm Section—despite a longstanding friendship between the artist and the label. After recent success on Ghostly International and a few delectable dance-funk collaborations with Neil Frances, The Lost Tape Vol. 3 brings a fusion of hip-hop cuts and electronic sketches that drift into alternative house territory—making it a natural fit for Rhythm Section.
Label head Bradley Zero was introduced to the artist via mutual friends Beautiful Swimmers, who, like dreamcastmoe, are based in Washington, D.C. The city’s eclectic music scene remains a central force in shaping his genre-blending sound.
»Flowers« showcases the artist’s soulful R&B croon, its smooth guitar riff gradually submerged under swelling synths that amplify the track’s longing, yearning tone. NAPPYNAPPA features here and reappears on the slinky »heyy heyy« and the darker, bounce-heavy »shatta«, with its spiraling synths and weighty low-end.
The full-blown big-band funk of »lemonpeppasteppa« breaks into the fluttering woodwind groove of »expectations«. The woodwinds return on »thank ya«, gently echoing the organ motif of Harry J Allstars’ »Liquidator« with grace. Other standouts include the hazy, lo-fi gem »molly’s request« and the G-funk-inspired »couple plays«, a late-night crooner-rap delight.
As the third entry in the mixtape series, The Lost Tape Vol. 3 reaffirms dreamcastmoe’s singular vision—an artist who effortlessly traverses genres while crafting his own sonic language.
