This one is different – different to the flood of instrumental HipHop releases, which normally mixes up with dubstep or other variations of electronic music. Fulgeance is now presented full-bodiedly as an acclaimed man, but no one really needs to be ashamed of not having heard of him, yet. All this should be about to change with To All Of You. Because the man from France, in contrast to most of his colleagues who tend to get lost in the widths of their sounds, manages to always find a way of tying in with a rhythm or a melody. Vilnius Bump rises through a bubble of bass and drums, before the groove sets in and makes the whole thing vibrate in its very foundation. What’s special is the usage of very poignant stress, like the choir in Montefalco Mato or the watery voice in Hiver Normand, which always give you the feeling that there is a way through this room and that Fulgeance knows exactly the way out. The record is wrapped with a bunch of nice enough remixes, which neither deconstruct nor re-arrange the tracks, but rather use them as a big meadow to play on. Still, Tokyo Blue Nostalgia would have been a fitting ending point, in which all patterns and forms of this little cosmos become one. To become its very own universe, it’s missing a few rough edges pressing a bit more individuality out of some of the tracks – but this record definitely raises hopes for expecting great things from Fulgeance in the future.
