Even though Nicolò Fortuni and Nico Vascellari aren’t actually from Brazil, their Batucada-drumming is so very authentic that their chosen band name Ninos Du Brasil fits the Italian musicians more than well. Also, the fact that the percussions were mostly recorded live, adds to this impression. However, samba and the Rio carnival are only points of reference in this abstract hybrid of house, the elements of which have seemingly been bundled in order to achieve the biggest possible hypnosis-effects. Furthermore, tracks like »Sepultura« (= grave) are paying tribute to the greatest Brazilian metal-band of all times, which is hardly surprising, considering that the two producers have originally began their careers in spheres of punk and indie-rock. Every now and then, they push aside the Latin-American influences, like in »Legios de Cupins«, in order to make room for sounds of coldly flickering IDM-house. And to round it all up, the title track leads us through broad regions of Gamelan, the slomo-gongs of which finally turn into a thunderstorm of stroboscopes, a huge techno-finale. Techno isn’t dead. For sure. All you need is the right approach, as »Novos Mistérios« proves.
