Pussy Disco: The Sunrise Sessions

Synaptic Cliffs • 2026

As a writer, if you have the choice between truth and myth, you should, as the saying goes, always go for the myth. In the case of Perzeptiverdampfkesselqualmtbesinnlich (PDQB for short, which in turn could also stand for Primadonna Disco Queen Beast) and the like, the myth is so surreal and convoluted that I simply can’t make head nor tail of it. From mind-control aliens to secret parties in Hong Kong or the casinos of Macau, right through to – naturally – the eponymous musical kittens, it all makes my head spin. Perhaps there’ll be a graphic novel about it one day as label merchandise…

In any case, the eleven remixes from the Pussy Disco album, collected as The Sunrise Sessions, place a clearer focus on the ‘disco’ part of the title. Whilst the originals are still deeply rooted in chillout, downtempo and after-hours music, the remix versions of these actually rather brief tracks feature both longer, more club-friendly running times and, for the most part, much more prominent, driving beats. Rude 66, for instance, transforms the calm, atmospheric ‘Karla Tristeene’ into a retro-futuristic stomper with vocoder vocals, whilst Alessandro Adriani sweeps away any ‘Twin Peaks’-style atmosphere from ‘LogLady’ with jittery synths and edgy hi-hats. No matter which camp you fall into, these tracks are perfect for whizzing round the dancefloor a few times during those magical hours just before sunrise.
