Best 2025 so far

When you release something big without warning, you create expectations. And often, a celebrated debut is followed by the difficult question: what now? Back when they were still based in Chicago, Purelink delivered Signs in 2023 – a surprisingly euphoric revival of glitch. Subtle disruptions were transformed through dub sensibilities and ambient flow into something quietly intoxicating – warm in its background noise, with a sense of atmosphere you could almost call sublime.

Now based in Brooklyn, the trio take a slightly different path on Faith: the new tracks feel more immediate, more tangible – not in contrast to their debut, but as a gentle progression. Two pieces even open up the sonic space with voices: Loraine James sings in a restrained tone, while Angelina Nonaj contributes a reflective spoken word piece. The sound remains deliberately warm, precisely crafted, subtly expanded. Faith doesn’t surprise the way its predecessor did – but it succeeds in its resolve not to repeat itself.
