»Boogie« is aimed squarely at the body. In fact, ever since the programmatic album title »Free Your Mind… and Your Ass Will Follow« by Funkadelic, funk has not shied away from explicitly referring to the body parts involved in dancing. The lesser-known band Sho-Nuff, whose debut album with the catchy title »From the Gut to the Butt« in 1978 was released on the Stax label, took a similar approach. Their fourth and final album from 1983 remained true to the direct approach in its title and reliably delivered on that in its music: »Body Pressure« opens with a precise slap bass attack in the title track, followed by a few elegant soul ballads, before delivering a veritable boogie anthem with »Hold On for Love« that has no need to fear the competition.
One problem was that »Body Pressure« was recorded in Japan and released exclusively there. It was to remain that way for a while, which made the record a collector’s rarity. The fact that Wewantsounds has taken on the matter and completely remastered the album now gives us the opportunity to rediscover the excellent rhythm work of Sho-Nuff. The dance floor would be the right place for that. Monster!
