Suzanne Ciani & Jonathan Fitoussi

Golden Apples Of The Sun

Obliques / Transversales Disques • 2023

The title track of the album »The Golden Apples of the Sun« by Suzanne Ciani and Jonathan Fitoussi refers to the poem »The Song of Wandering Aengus« by William Butler Yeats and opens up a parallel world in which the whisper of the wind and the sound of breaking waves combine in a fascinating way with spherical elements of science fiction. As you listen, the scent of hazelnut trees, the crackling of a fireplace and the android-like appearance of the mysterious girl from Yeats’ poem immediately creep into your imagination. Gently and harmoniously intoned by Ciani, the verses are integrated into a percolating composition of Moog Subharmonicon and ornate soundtracks, and tenderly lead into the overall work by the two musicians. Famed electronic pioneer Suzanne Ciani is a five-time Grammy Award-nominated composer and neo-classical artist who has released over 20 solo albums. Known for her unique and virtuoso work with the Buchla 200e and Moog One, her musical visions are complemented by French composer Jonathan Fitoussi’s outstanding finesse with the EMS Synthi AKS. Released on Obliques, the album is at once organic and vibrant, hypnotic and rhythmic, and powerful and dreamlike.
