Give Me Your Love

Universal Sound • 1981

The cover shot shows a naked shoulder, promisingly hidden under an opulent white fur coat. The beautiful big eyes seem a bit sad, but nevertheless hopeful – one cannot be sure about that. Sure is that this is a ravishing, captivating album, finally re-released by Soul Jazz Records after 30 years and quite a bit more Euros spent on fleamarkets. An album, which isn´t sought after just because it has been sampled many times, be it by Junior Mafia and Erykah Badu or Naughty by Nature, Armand van Helden and the Backstreet Boys. No, the album is so popular because it is so charmingly diverse, produced with such a funky attitude. An album, for which Roy Ayers is responsible, which succeeded with summa cum laude in Disco, Soul and Jazz in 1980 and which has created its very own »Pre-Boogie Sound«. Accompanied by this enchanting, devoted voice that reminds of Minnie Ripperton and which should be audible on more albums. But here it is, only on »Give Me Your Love«, an oeuvre of the century and a calling we have all followed or will follow thanks to this re-release.
