Wilson Tanner is the surname combination of the two Australian musicians Andrew Wilson – also known as Andras Fox, originally a house music producer – and John Tanner. For Legends, released on Efficient Space, the two have teamed up for an LP for the third time after 2016 and 2019. The record has nothing to do with electronic dance music. Like its predecessors, it is a pure chill-out acoustic album. Tracks like »Grasshopper«, »Old Vine« or »Summer Rot« revel in their dreaminess – you hardly realize when one track ends and the next begins. And that’s exactly what’s meant as a quality feature: it’s about slowness, lightness. Clearing your head, just not paying attention to how or why things are going this way or that way.
Interspersed field recordings of birds or laughing people emphasize this claim to lightheartedness. The most beautiful track is the eponymous »Legends« – it could have been written by Willie Nelson. With guitar, banjo, piano and some unidentifiable instruments Wilson Tanner compose their very own tonality for the land of South Australia, its endless expanses and the places where they grew up.
