Bass Cadet Records

Bass Cadet Records is a record label from Berlin powered by Alan Mathias, Etienne Dauta as well as the brothers Tolga and Atilla Findan. From a loose, creative exchange it operated first as Bass Cadet, whose same name is prominently displayed on the door of the Berlin record shop (which Etienna Dauta opened with a friend in 2013 and which serves as the chosen headquarter by the residents of Neukölln). Even though all important decisions are made together and commitments vary, the tasks at Bass Cadet Records are fairly distributed: Etienne Dauta looks after the management and production, Alan Mathias takes care of the sound engineering and Atilla Findan worries about the design. And what about the other brother? “Tolga is our wiser, older brother who gives us suggestions,” he states with a wink. The clique primarily uses the label as a launching pad for their own productions. Particularly the output by Mathias and Dauta, who produces dubbing house/techno-hybrids under the name Arcarsenal, defines the slender catalogue. The Fidan brothers in no way limp behind. »Tolga has masses of material on his hard disk and Attila at night secretly tweaks his stuff.« That Bass Cadet can boast only very little for a young, well-interconnected label is due to the trial and error process of the collective. »The catalogue number BCR003 – Arcarsenal’s ‘Hoodoo Spell’ – as well as Tolga Findan’s EP (to be published in autumn 2015) are our most important releases. The firsts were rather samples. However, Arcarsenal’s EP is a new start which gives us the feeling to go in the right direction.« This probably doesn’t only refer to the music from Bass Cadet and it’s members alone. Because whilst they are committed to smooth grooves and a homely deepness, the label’s motto obtains a concise position. »On our records stands ›This record kills fascists‹ in the same style stated on Woodie Guthrie’s guitar. Whether musical or cultural, we are all from different backgrounds which influences and connects us.« Never let it be said that dance music is a non-political field.
