BBE Records is a Berlin-based record label, founded by Peter Adarkwah and Ben Jolly in London, UK, in 1995. The name of the label is taken from the Song __Barely Breaking Even__ by The Universal Robot Band from 1982. While it started as a label for compilations only, BBE Records, especially through their series »Beat Generation«, managed to become a genuine record label over the years. »Beat Generation« gave hip hop producers the opportunity to show their skills and can be seen as a predecessor of the beat producer movement. It featured artists including J Dilla, Pete Rock, Marley Marl, DJ Spinna, Jazzy Jeff, King Britt and Madlib on nine records so far. In the last years BBE Records released albums as well (such as those of J-Live, TY, DJ Vadim, Pete Rock and Phantogram) without giving up their focus on compilations.
