Bennie Maupin

Bennie Maupin (born 1940 in Detroit) is an American jazz saxophonist, clarinetist and flutist. He became known through his participation in Miles Davis’ Bitches Brew and as a member of Herbie Hancock’s ensemble on Mwandishi and Headhunters. As a solo artist, he released albums such as The Jewel in the Lotus (1974) and Slow Traffic To The Right (1977), often with a spiritual focus and sonic openness.
