Claremont 56
Claremont 56 is a record label founded by Paul Murphy from Bricket Wood, Hertfordshire in 2007. Before Paul Murphy brought Claremont 56 to life, he was employed as a part time graphic designer. In the rest of his free time, he produced music (house, disco) under the alias Mudd. But it was always his desire to devote his whole day to music and finally came the time in 2007. Paul Murphy is from Bricket Wood, a small city in the east of England. There he lived at the address 56 Claremont. Not only was the name found quickly, but it was also clear from the start that the record label would have a lot to do with himself. There he would make no compromise. He would rather publish no record than one, which would not comply with his criteria for quality. “My favourite labels in the early 90s were the ones where you could buy the record without even hearing it, as you had complete trust in the labels’ output – this was something I really wanted to achieve for Claremont 56” Paul Murphy tells us in an interview. Meanwhile, more than 70 releases have appeared on Claremont 56, in a variety of disciplines. With the term ‘Balearicdiscofolkrockkraut’ Paul Murphy summarizes the labels broad spectrum. In 2009, the sub label Leng Records was added. There is one thing in common in regards to the output of the now London based Record label; there is a lot of love in it.
