Gang Of Ducks
Gang Of Ducks is an Italian record label founded in Turin in 2012. “Our crew is made up of a few people who are active in various fields,” is the dry answer to the question of who is actually behind the project. Even with intensive research not much more can be found out about the Italian collective even though the label with releases by Ital, Vaghe Stelle and S Olbricht among others has already become an institution to the scene of followers of aloof electronic sounds.
Even though it states very monosyllabic, “No motto, no philosophy” their statements disclose a little bit more about the ambitions of the imprint which publishes on tape, vinyl and digital. “Gang of Ducks was established not only as a label, rather as a hub for the publishing of different things. For now we concentrate precisely on records but in the future we will also address publisher projects and art exhibitions. We have no fixed objective, we only try to define a raw demon in it’s best as possible form,” states their nebulous comment. The personal touch however may not be missing; as a bonus every release comes with a Gangs of Duck remix.
The individual concepts of the label’s releases are comprehensively edited and the format in which a release appears in is discussed intensively with the artists. Between a 7[ by the hyper-productive noise artist Sudden Infant, to the strictly limited tape releases by Traag to 12"s by Sabla among others (which are decorated with lavish etchings) Gangs of Ducks puts a great attention to detail into the complete artwork, which in turn fits into a concept. “We put a lot of value on the visual aspects in order to fully exhaust the pre-existing concepts behind the music. We developed our own symbol based ‘language’, in which particular releases liaise with one another,” states Gang of Ducks about their occultist visual arts. Ultimately this is at the foreground, rather than the people behind it.
