Golden Antenna Records

Golden Antenna Records is a record label from Braunschweig which was founded in 2007 by Timo Siems. To the question, which release was personally the most important to him, Siems has a clear answer: Maserati’s ‘Inventions for the New Season’. »Not only because it was the first, but rather because it was Maserati with Jerry Fuchs, a best friend who unfortunately, tragically died in 2009 and who I still think about almost every day,« he explains. Indeed with the curation of his label, Siems really places a lot of value on personal relationships. The colourful jumble of post-krautrock sounds – just like those from Maserati who have published three records with Golden Antenna – via the noisy post-punk of the New Zealand group Die! Die! Die! down to the experimental metal drafts from bands like Rosetta, Phantom Winter or Kerretta is not underlined by a sophisticated concept. “That may sound too simple to many, but it’s really about the love of music. That can extend from ambient through to black metal, it can also even be hip hop” explains Siems. What’s important to him is a stylistic independence. Especially important to him is that this independence is not only auditory but also visual and haptic. [Because I have no cds at home we set out from the beginning this focus on vinyl” he recalls. “Haptics is somehow entirely my thing. It has to feel and look good and also fit well in combination.« And when Siems says that, then he really means all kind of elements. “For example new vinyls also smell differently than old ones« he winks. Whereby naturally the music is placed in the centre. The sound of Golden Antenna differs from release to release. As if the label from record to record reinvents itself.
