Holger Records
Holger Records is a German record label from Leipzig founded by Jan and Steffen Bennemann in 2013. The label’s title also belongs to a real Bennemann; the label is named after the founder’s father. The broad, creative family initially included: the band Webermichelson, the producer Timoka, the artist Lianna van der Laar as well as the typographer Reymund Schröder. A composition that in the meantime has changed. In the centre of it all still stands the Bennemann brothers and a common thread, which defines the two such as the following: »the preoccupation with very individual forms of expressions. For us it’s about giving them space to evolve«. It was necessary to reduce the intermedia approach to the bare essentials. »In the meantime it appeared to make more sense to work a little more focused; so it’s now all about publishing interesting records« they state. »Our own label nights with sophisticated room installations still belong to the concept; exactly like Lianna van de Laars’ visual art and the artwork to each record.« Because the family-powered label recruits from the personal surroundings of the Bennemanns, it seems only logical that a portion of the line up and all people involved also live in the Saxonian city. »Webermichelson, Vai, Lianne van de Laar and her co-operation partner Carsten Rüger including our new graphic designer Lukas Mehling all live here« confirm the Bennemanns. But it has nothing to do with local patriotism. »It is a great city and we feel very good here, but it plays no role for us in which area our artists live in: Timoka is at home in Basel, Dream Weapons in Athens, Margot lives in Italy.« The diverse, musical designs are unified by their individuality. »For us it is especially about having your own artistic language. We are less interested in the next big club hit; rather the personal expression.«_ This explains the interesting mix of house, techno and odd music designs, which are skillfully united by the compelling greyscale aesthetic of the artwork.
