Lux Rec

Lux Rec is a record label based in Zurich created in May 2010 by Daniele Barbiero and Dominik Schmid. As DJs, the Italian Daniele Barbiero aka Cosmo and the Swiss Dominik Schmid aka Faber had long been an established team. This is why for both vinyl lovers the next logistic step was to set up their own label.“ Playing it safe never interested us[ tells Daniele Barbiero. “We would rather advance into borderland.” Which is why the plain but expressionate releases of Lux Rec allow the abysmal italo disco tunes of Meschi to rub against Helena Hauff’s and CCO’s acid house and the hypothermic electro by brothers Echo 106 or Visonia to rattle past tremulous sequencer pieces by Murphy Jax. Their release strategy is by no means predictable nor is there a common denominator apart from the devotion to analog sound engineering. Besides the aesthetic make-up, musical continuity is a matter held dear by Lux Rec. “After a while it became clear to us that Lux Rec could achieve more than just releasing an album every two months. We’re able to tell a story, to become a statement.” First and foremost this sounds quite dark. Lux Rec, despite their name, are at loggerheads with today’s overwhelming flood of images and colours. No need to reject the future though as Daniele Barbiero and Dominik Schmid continuously dig around to put the most precious disco-pearls and most morbid house-pieces into the right but pale light.
