Omega Supreme Records

Omega Supreme is an American record label founded in 2012 in Portland, Oregon. ‘The philosophy is very simple’ explains Vance, who is also active as a DJ under the name GWISZKI. ‘To support artists, who cherish, preserve and nurse Funk so that we can work further on the narrative of our Modern Funk fantasies, which continues on in our mix tapes and bounces on the dance floor’. Clearly, Vance is a full blood enthusiast, who in his teenage times b-boyed to Funk and Hip Hop and who raves about Funk of the 1970’s and 1980’s as the language that he’ll always speak. ‘I always try to carry with me the hopes and positive attitudes of this era, despite all of the hardships’, he says. Whether Contemporary Funk, which is summarised under many different catchwords, is produced using traditional analogue or new digital production resources plays no role for Vance. ‘The only aim is that you have to feel the Funk’. Omega Supreme was founded in the light of the growing international exchange of new artists over the internet, whose recordings did not end up in his record shelf. He wanted to change that by establishing his own label, which he runs on his own with a helping hand from Graphic Designer Rebecca Coffman for the visual realisation. It remains his defined goal to conduct furthermore the total A&R work for Omega Supreme on his own, like he has already done since almost 20 years as a contributor to the american west coast music scene. Even though contact to his acts develops mostly over the internet and he has at most met half of them personally, to him exchange is so important that he specifically initiated a cassette series with live recordings in order to finance shows and to bring the people who have published on Omega Supreme together. Under the banner of the concept of Modern Funk, which Omega Supreme hoisted up, bustles about regionally a very disparate mix of people, from the Australian Inkswel to the Indonesian Midnight Runners up to the German band First Touch including the American acts.
