Outis Records
Outis Records is a German record label from Berlin founded in 2011 by Dino Sabatini. When it became clear to the Italian producer and DJ that he needed a platform for his own music, he established it there and then off his own bat, in order to expand his horizon beyond making music. Named by the man himself, the single-handedly run label is titled after a play on words of Homer’s epic poem »Odyssey«. In answer to the question put to him by a Cyclops of who stands in front of him, »Outis«, a pseudonym for the hero Odysseus answers »nobody«. After Odysseus has well and truly roughed up the one eyed monster, Cyclops calls to his mates for help: »Nobody’s killing me now by fraud and not by force!« And who comes to help him: also nobody. And what does this exactly have to do with the Techno, that Sabatini has published on Outis? »The releases are named after the books of Odyssey and in themselves are adventures filled with emotion. Love, passion, sometimes even anger. With Homer it is also about melancholy, the demand to return to home – a feeling, that I know too well«, says the constantly touring producer. Odysseus also cloaks the cyclops-capital – in the full sense of the word – in anonymity and since Sabatini’s label started out from complete obscurity, it seems that this choice at that moment in time only made sense.
Outis especially serves Sabatini as a platform for his own releases, which he would like to have the sole control over. In the meantime, he has no concrete idea, what new productions must be like, in order to be published. So what makes an Outis release an Outis release? »Musical research, finding alternatives to the usual cliches and concentrating on personal feelings«, is Sabatini’s answer. Next to established acts like Donato Dozzy, Giorgio Gigli and Edit Select you can also find unknown acts represented by Outis. For example, Luigi Pozzi was discovered by Sabatini via a Soundcloud mix. As he already compares the musical requirements of an Outis release to looking for a needle in a haystack, the same applies to the A&R work, which is not given top priority. Instead for him, it is all about how Homer’s hero finds his way – whether this leads to the way home? Surely at least in unexplored realms, because with Outis Opera, Sabatini began a series, which differentiates itself from the dance floor orientated Outis-sound and offers a platform for experimental projects like for example his collaboration with the pianist and accordionist Antonello Salis. This is what the label was essentially brought to life for.
