Pierre Schaeffer

Pierre Schaeffer (1910-1995) was a French composer and writer from Nancy. He argued for a move away from the restrictions on traditional musical instruments and the fixed pitches that set out therein and for an open access to sounds. He coined the term of Musique concrète. In 1959 he founded the Groupe de Recherches Musicales (GRM). In 1995 Schaeffer died in Aix-en-Provence after long suffering on Alzheimer. His last work, he created in 1979.
