*SUMAC is a Canadian-American metal band formed in 2014 by Aaron Turner. Together with Brian Cook and Nick Yacyshyn, Turner combines sludge, post-metal and free improvisation. Albums like The Deal (2015) and May You Be Held (2020) on Thrill Jockey* show SUMAC’s search for radical expressiveness beyond conventional structures.
