Five years after their candid debut single »Aταραξία / Καταστροφή« for the Belgian 7-inch label Les Disques Lexi, Musica Mosaica release Clock In, Clock Out, a delightful experimental album debut on Brussels label Futura Resistenza – known for music beyond conventional compositional logic. Emmanuel Gonay and Xavier García Bardón, the creative minds behind Musica Mosaica, weave sounds into eccentric meshes carried by unpolished FM synths and a subtle musique concrète touch.
A piece such as »Tempistica Metronomica« delights with glassy glissandi. The opening track »Interlocking« skilfully recycles the »Loon Garden« sample from the E-mu Emulator II synthesiser into vocal sounds, the same sample that 808 State made famous with their 1989 hit »Pacific State«. And a tune such as »Concaténations« could have come from a bottle orchestra. Everything is recorded with percussive synth sounds, acoustic drums and a handful of further sounds of unknown origin. In the process, the duo select their sounds like materials from which they shape magical sonic worlds.
