Italo Disco travelled far and wide, inspiring electronic dance music styles from all over the world, whether it was Dutch Electro or Detroit Techno. The sound originally born in Milanese studios even reached the Antilles thanks to Mario Baldoni a.k.a. Miro, a prolific singer and songwriter who wrote a slew of anthems and worked with stars such as Loredana Bertè. As the story goes, Baldoni recorded »Ou Ka Vini Com Moin« with a yet-to-be-identified Martiniquian singer while on the Caribbean island.
Ou Ka Vini Com Moin was released under the Govindo alias on the short-lived Gala label, home to Baldoni’s releases as Phil Sun, in 1983. It made little waves, but became an underground hit after a while— copies traded for up to € 700. Far from being a mere collector’s item, »Ou Ka Vini Com Moin« is one of the finest Italo Disco singles from the genre’s vast repertoire: It is a cosmic yet decidedly poppy take on the genre that seems to pay homage to greats like Jean-Michel Jarre while also seemingly providing a bit of local flavour.
This Disco Segreta reissue combines the 7” and 12” single mixes and the song’s instrumental version with two new remixes by Marcello Giordani and Miro himself. The former highlights the Italo Disco/Dutch Electro lineage while putting a special emphasis on the odd sounds cooked up by Baldoni, while the latter takes the tune straight to Café del Mar, rounding off this essential reissue with some (admittedly overdriven) Balearic vibes. This tune keeps on travelling, luckily.
