Boogie is an electronic form of funk that emerged between 1978 and 1984. It combines soulful vocals with sequencers, synthesiser basslines and drum machines such as the TR-808, as well as clear song structures. Typical features include mid-tempo grooves, playful basslines, and a smooth, club-friendly sound. Boogie has influenced modern soul, nu funk and house, and has experienced a worldwide revival in club culture and the reissue scene since the 2000s.
