Modern Creative

Modern Creative is a collective term used since the 1980s for stylistically open trends in contemporary jazz. The genre combines elements of free jazz, post-bop, European improvisation and new music. Classical formal models are often deconstructed, improvisation and composition are treated equally, and non-European influences are integrated. Representatives include Dave Douglas, Uri Caine, and Craig Taborn.
