Trap

Trap is a subgenre of hip-hop that emerged in the southern states of the USA in the 2000s. The sound is minimalist and rhythmically driven. It is characterised by complex hi-hats, snares and bass-heavy 808 drums. The name is derived from the slang term ‘trap house’, referring to a place where drugs are sold. Rapper T.I. claims to have coined the term. Other notable artists include Gucci Mane, Lex Luger and Jeezy.
