After more than 25 years in the local scene in the mountainous north of Niger, Etran de L’Aïr are going on a big tour and will be coming to Berlin’s Gretchen on June 18, 2024. The »stars of the Aïr region« play their rousing Sahel sound, a pan-African mix of northern Malian blues and Congolese soukous, primarily at numerous weddings around the desert metropolis of Agadez.

Lively celebrations are also the order of the day at the concerts in all ten countries that Etran de L’Aïr will be touring in the coming months. »When we’re invited, we come and play,« says guitarist Abindi. »We play for the Tuareg, the Toubou, the Zarma, the Hausa.« This also applies to the many European and North American »peoples« that the quartet now visits – and not least to the various »tribes« of Berlin, who should not miss the concert in June.
