µ-Ziq

1979

Balmat • 2025

Two years ago, Mike Paradinas released an album under his main alias µ-Ziq on the Spanish label Balmat — one that felt far removed from the IDM, post-dubstep and footwork amalgamations that define his own Planet Mu imprint. The atmospheric, psychedelic downtempo tracks carried an undeniable affinity with ambient music. And with its title, 1977, the record leaned unapologetically into nostalgia — though in µ-Ziq’s world, a gentle fascination with the past has always been part of the story.

With his new album, Paradinas moves two years forward — arriving at 1979. He deepens the introspection of his recent work with mostly beatless tracks that drift between New Age impressionism and ambient abstraction. When fleeting traces of acid or breakbeat surface amid the lush melodies and rich synthesisers, they serve as reminders of his enduring bond with electronic dance music. For on 1979, nostalgia isn’t something to be indulged — it’s simply something felt.
