The term Blaumilch is often used jokingly to describe something unreal or fanciful – much like the proverbial »pink elephant«. And that fits perfectly here: from the very first track, it becomes clear that this album does not take itself too seriously. It is precisely this playful attitude that opens up space to explore different, sometimes hidden sonic worlds.
Blaumilch transports the listener into a dreamlike picture-book landscape, explored in classic Ambient and Downtempo fashion. The opening track »Fog Frog Green« sets the tone with a grooving beat and distorted, metallic, almost computer-like vocals that recall Daft Punk. And where, famously, do frogs feel most at home? Exactly – by the water. That is where »Lovers Lake« continues the journey: delicate female vocals hover above sounds that resemble drops falling from leaves into a still lake – gentle, rhythmic, almost meditative. We find ourselves right in the middle of a dreamy lakeside inner landscape. And what, on such a fantasy trance trip, should of course not be missing? Right: shrooms. »Amplify Shrooms« pulls the listener into an altered state of consciousness with driving basslines, tribal drums and distorted, barely intelligible vocals – to the point where one can almost see the aforementioned fog frogs dancing around the lake in time. In »Osmopower«, snakes finally join the scene: Aroma von Troisdorf tells his fairy tale himself – in German – while tribal and oriental sounds merge with kraut-inflected sonic textures.
