It’s a little more complicated now. First of all, there is Alessandro Alessandroni. Whose name is probably less familiar, but as a musician it is probably in the ears of many. As a whistler, the composer contributed to the soundtracks of his school friend Ennio Morricone, »A Fistful of Dollars« or »Once Upon a Time in the West« are also among them. In the archives of the multi-instrumentalist Alessandro Alessandroni, who himself appeared as a band leader and film composer, there were then four unreleased cosmic disco numbers from 1978, which appeared three years ago under the title »Afro Discoteca« on the Italian label Four Flies. After the great success of the EP, the label has now presented remixes or new arrangements of these four numbers by compatriots of Alessandro Alessandroni. The band Calibro 35 presents their version of »Africa Voodoo« which is somewhat close to the original. In the hands of the DJ pAd, on the other hand, the space-aware funk of the original is almost completely overlaid by metallic robot cymbals in his version of “Afro Darkness”. The tribalistic percussion of the track number, on the other hand, expands Jolly Mare with kazoo-like sounds, but on the other hand leaves the bass ample room to breathe during remixing, in keeping with the isolation principle. And the melody is taken over by a nice old-fashioned synthesizer. A second remix of »Afro Darkness« is finally presented by L.U.C.A., which convinces with its great spatiality and a less aggressive beat mixed into the foreground.
