A good six months after the release of her outstanding debut album, Canadian producer and label boss Ciel aka Cindy Le is back with a new EP to celebrate the start of her tour. Everything on this record is a call to action against sitting still. Five tracks that sit comfortably between house and breakbeats, but always invite genre guests to shake up the party. “Viral Load” is a beast that doesn’t want to decide, but doesn’t have to.
A continuous bass wobbler, the kind that the cool kids of South London loved in 2008 and that would almost pass for retro today, hammers away behind the beat until acid creeps into the track and a vocal sample throws everything into disarray. And despite these detours, Sada’s Dream finds its sweaty common denominator. Every idea and every sound is subjected to the idea of being danceable. The highlight, however, is on the B-side. It’s not just the title of the fourth track, ‘Bubble Gum Pop’, that causes confusion. Wistful vocals hover over a bubbling, bouncing beat reminiscent of Aphex Twin’s “Donkey Rhubarb”. Or in the words of one fan on Instagram, “B2 has me feeling like I’m in SpongeBob’s world”.
