At the beginning of the year, it was DJ Koze, who, with his Remix of There Will Be Singing, catapulted Efdemin back to the tops of the DJ-Charts and onto the turntables. Now, the Tech-House-specialist tops it up with two of his own creations on his Please EP. Both tracks between 115 and 125 bpm of about 10 minutes length are predestined to become part of the rotation in big city clubs. Apparently, the audience is not to be elated in moments of ecstasy, but rather to lose themselves in trance. The B-side Blount, in particular, does almost completely without moments of acceleration. Instead, the wobbling bass-line is accompanied by a clap here and there, a vocal sample befriends a kick drum until the whole thing becomes somewhat dynamic by adding a shaker. Until the very end, the track remains minimalistic. The listener sinks into the depths of the bass and gets carried away by the psychedelic impact of the light synths-pads and every day’s background noises, such as barking dogs, a beeping truck backing up or creaking doors. No explosion is to be heard, but instead, it blossoms and flourishes all over the place. In opposition, the A-side runs straight forward, on which especially the tinkering with the synthesizer’s frequencies provides diversification. And despite the attention to detail when it comes to the background sounds, the two tracks remain to be pure Tech-House: Somehow, it’s all been heard before, but it still does the trick.
