Outside Germany, their favorite hideaway, the Dilated-Peoples-Camp had to take quite a lot of stick since releasing their semi-classic-record ‘Work the Angles’. They were ridiculed as a backpack-relict, denounced as Gang Starr in yawn and it was almost always Evidence taking the most severe knockdowns: Biggest amateur since Mr Eon? Even more boring than The Bold and the Beautiful? Repetitions? It’s all been there before? Alright, on The Weatherman LP, he also lectures on life with the same enthusiasm that Nicholas Cage is noted for, only that he finds a more friendly synonym for it: Mr Slow Flow. The fact that one’s more willing to listen to him for more than five minutes might by due to Evidence having had to come to terms with the loss of his mother, which made him produce the utmost personal lyrics of his career. But it’s probably also thanks to the forward-striding productions by Alchemist, Jake One, Sid Roams, DJ Khalil, Babu and Evidence himself. Less nostalgia, more willingness to take risks, becoming especially manifest in countless rolling synths-lines, without leaving his own neo-classical niche. With this record, he’ll even make peace with all the mean and evil critics. In defiance of a few countries and some eyes-rollers: hating Evidence has become uncool again.
