Jahandar Hamidieh is an Iranian-American multimedia artist and producer based in California. His musical project is called Fields of Mist, and shapes ambient, dub, breaks and electro into gentle soundscapes that radiate meditative warmth while still demanding attention.
Intergalactic Rose, Hamidieh’s latest EP on Ilian Tape, is likewise marked by breath-fine textures. Across its slim half-hour, he designs a self-contained spectacle that rewards complete immersion in its rhythmic shifts, rough surfaces and melodic contours. »Masters of the Known Universe!« functions as an ideal snapshot: deep dub spaces and a surging pulse initially create weightlessness, while small changes in the layers keep the track constantly in motion. The title track, by contrast, relies on clattering textures, warm Detroit pads and a firmly set groove.
Intergalactic Rose works both as concentrated listening music and as a dancefloor proposition. The EP does not romanticise the vast intergalactic space as emptiness, but as a richly articulated, emotional setting. Hamidieh does not let atmosphere dissolve; he gives it form, tension and direction.
